Howard Newman

Pine Brook Chairman and CEO – US MEMBER

Mr. Howard Newman is a member of the Tunisian American Enterprise Fund and chairman and chief executive officer of Pine Brook Road Partners, LLC, which he founded in 2006. Pine Brook manages investment funds that make business building and other growth equity investments, primarily in the energy and financial services industries.

Mr. Newman has served as a director of more than 40 companies, including 19 public companies. During the term of Governor George Pataki of New York, Mr. Newman served as an advisor to Governor Pataki on energy policy. He is also past Chairman of the Yale University Council Committee on New Haven Economic Development and the Yale Alumni Fund and served on the Advisory Board of the Yale Climate & Energy Institute. Mr. Newman is currently a Trustee of the Salk Institute of Biological Research.

Prior to forming Pine Brook, Mr. Newman was Vice Chairman of Warburg Pincus, LLC, where he developed the energy and financial services businesses, and led a number of other investing practices as well. He also spent ten years in investment banking at Morgan Stanley & Co., Incorporated before joining Warburg Pincus.

Mr. Newman has a B.A. and M.A. in economics from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University. He was also a Marshall Scholar doing economics research at Cambridge University.
